My sister is obsessed with NPR…
And I had the best drive home as far as the radio is concerned—bookended by two of my favorite guilty pleasures: Tattoo and Break Anotha
It’s not something I’m proud of, but I can’t lie there is something about former American Idol contestants’ songs that puts a smile on my face. Admitting this may sap every ounce of coolness I never possessed. But anyone that denies singing along to at least ONE of my Top Five former Idol hits is a liar, liar, pants on fire.
- “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood
Have you seen that video? If you watched VH1’s Top 40 videos of 2007, you’ll hear one of those funny dudes talk about how she destroys an entire city street!! - “Over You” by Daughtry
Even my music-sherpa MHG admits that Creedy-daughtri-back-ubus released some music that you just can’t help but tap your toes to. - “Tattoo” by Jordin Sparks
I really hate that I love this song. I think it’s the corniness of the tattoo reference that makes me cringe as I sing it at the top of my lungs. - “Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson
It’s probably unfair to include Kelly in this list. But although I can’t actually sing this song and hit all the right notes, I always feel better after trying. - “8th Wonder” by Kimberley Locke
Can you name the first 7?? I can’t. But I do remember this song unlike any by winners such as Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, and Taylor Hicks.
For those of you following the careers of Ruben and Taylor, both have been dropped from their labels in the last year. Oops…did America get those votes wrong too?!
I would never be allowed to blog again if I didn’t at least mention the work of Jennifer Hudson. While making me practice my “Dreamgirl” poses, JAY will often serenade me with her version of ‘And I am Telling You I’m Not Going.’ Unfortunately, I have not heard it on the radio so it does not qualify for this particular poll.

Maybe they play it on NPR?
